By day, I work in the world of architecture as a marketing and communications person. Really, I suppose I didn't have a choice in terms of career or hobby - both my grandfathers were carpenters, my father is as well, the three women who principally raised me (grandmother, mom and aunt) were/are "sewists".
Along with the family gene pool, I suppose my scholastic and 4-H accomplishments at age 11 were the indicators of the paths my work and free time pursuits would take: two blue ribbons at the county fair for dressmaking (I cringe today thinking about the fabric choices I made back then) and a 3rd place award at the state level for extemporaneous speaking. I can still yap away about things on the fly pretty well, which I attribute to my predilection for being more dilettante and less specialist. I'm not sure my sewing can win any awards now & I'm not showing up on Project Runway anytime soon.
Mooshkette is part blog/part journal chronicling my adventures in all things crafty - specifically sewing - and occasionally making things to sell. The name "Mooshkette" comes from the nickname my friend Pierre gave to my dog, Mishka. Of course, he did mention that the true spelling is "Mouchequette", but I felt that was too complicated for a little label, even though its lovely to write in French script.
Below is Mishka, Mouchequette, the mascot of my life and crafts with her favorite toy, a cheetah print bone. We're just all about fabric around here, 24/7/365.
