works in progress this week

I put together a quick quilt last weekend. Perhaps "quick" is where the trouble began. I was interested in a particular pattern called 'postage stamp" which is essentially just a bunch of little squares. In the old days of quilting, individual small pieces were cut to size and stitched together. Today, the process is to strip piece - that is, you sew long pieces of fabric together and then cut the right sized bits from the strip layers to get sections. That's a bad description, but basically it's how to mass produce sections which you then compile.
Precision is key and there are a number of things that can go wrong, and did. So on to Plan B. I didn't want to waste my fabric (fabric is pricey at $11/yard or there about), so I just framed my imperfect collections of squares in white so that you wouldn't see all the mistakes as you would have if I had adjoined the blocks of mini-squares next to each other.
Today, I am working on a new quilt of vibrant summer colors - it's like summer just fell out of the sky onto this quilt. More later.
